"Rainy" - Shih Tzu Puppy, Battery Included!

There is no doubt that in this advanced technological age our life can be greatly enhanced by a variety of electronic devices. That is of course provided their batteries have been charged! I am not sure as to the exact reason why "Rainy" the Shih Tzu puppy decided to eat a triple AAA battery but it could well have been with the notion that his "performance" might well be improved.

Sadly, our canine companions are not currently designed for that method of enhancement and his tasty snack then posed us with a clinical dilemma. Radiography helped to convince us that our patient had swallowed the battery whole without taking the time to chew and savour it's metallic shell.

Had the outer casing been breached, allowing the corrosive acid to leak, this could have had more serious consequences. As it was, the battery remained intact and the only question remaining was whether we would need to remove the foreign object through surgery or whether "Rainy" might "dispense" the tasty morsel through a more natural process.

Despite our encouragement "Rainy" did indeed require surgical intervention to remove the energy cell trapped in his stomach. And we are pleased to report that after the surgery, despite having no battery left, he will continue to go on and on and on..........................................!
